In this album is recorded music of the internationally renowned Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti, a multi-instrumentalist who occupies a major role in contemporary music for guitar, piano and various ensembles and orchestras including these two instruments. Aguas propose some of the finest compositions arranged and performed by the quartet formation “Quatro Vozes“.
The music of Gismonti finds its source in the heart of Brazil. Stylistically, it is based on folk songs, rhythms and dances, but its innovative character is inspired by one side of harmonies that we find in the music of Ravel and Stravinsky. In other side, his approach and mixture with jazz offers a large spaces of improvisation and spontaneity. Notwithstanding different names, the genre of this repertory is between jazz and classical music.
